Service Notes: He was serving aboard a U.S. Navy ship during the fierce Battle of Okinawa when a Japanese kamikaze pilot deliberately dove his aircraft into the vessel. The tremendous impact caused a violent explosion, and he was killed by the concussion of the initial blast. He was buried at sea in the waters off Okinawa, far from his home and family.He was 23 years old.
