Service Notes: He served as the pilot of a B-17 Flying Fortress, leading his crew on dangerous bombing missions over enemy occupied Europe during World War II. While flying over France on a mission to Saint Étienne, a fire broke out aboard his bomber, forcing him to abandon the aircraft. He managed to parachute from the burning plane but tragically did not survive. He was 23 years old.
