Service Notes: He was a pilot of a B-17F Flying Fortress, preparing for the dangerous missions that awaited American aircrews during World War II. While participating in a training flight near Hutchinson, Kansas, tragedy struck when the bomber crashed. He and eight other airmen aboard were killed. He was only 24 years old.
