Served In: World War II Branch of Service: Navy Rank: Apprentice Seaman Service Notes: He served his country during World War II, but his life was taken not by enemy fire, but by illness. He developed encephalitis, a serious inflammation of the brain that can be caused by a viral infection and can rapidly become life threatening. Despite medical care, he did not recover and died while in military service. He was 41 years old.
