Service Notes: He served with a Marine night bombing squadron during World War II. During the brutal fighting around Bloody Nose Ridge on Peleliu, he stepped beyond his regular duties and volunteered to serve as a stretcher bearer, helping carry wounded Marines from the battlefield. While performing this dangerous act of service, he was struck and killed by a sniper’s bullet. He was only 20 years old.
