Rank: Private 1st Class Service Notes: He was a sailor serving aboard a ship bound for Greenland during World War II. He had just completed his turn on submarine watch, vigilantly scanning the waters for the very danger that would soon strike his ship. After being relieved, he went to the galley to get something to eat. Shortly afterward, an enemy torpedo slammed into the ship near his location. The impact killed him instantly. He was just 26 years old.
