Service Notes: He served with the Army’s specialized ski troops, soldiers trained for combat in the rugged mountains and harsh winter conditions of World War II. Sent to fight in Italy, these mountain troops faced steep terrain, snow covered peaks, and heavily defended German positions as Allied forces fought their way north through the Italian mountains. During the fighting, he was killed in action while serving his country. He was 27 years old.
