Service Notes: He served with the 71st Engineer Battalion of the 71st Philippine Division and became a prisoner of war after the fall of the Philippines. He endured years of Japanese captivity before being forced aboard the Shinyo Maru with hundreds of other American POWs crowded into its cargo holds. While the ship was off the coast of Mindanao, the USS Paddle, unaware that American prisoners were aboard the unmarked vessel, fired torpedoes that struck and sank it. He was 37 years old.
