Service Notes: He served as an instructor aboard a B-17 Flying Fortress, helping prepare aircrews for the dangerous missions they would face during World War II. During a training flight near Dyersburg Army Air Base in Tennessee, his aircraft collided with another plane in midair. Both aircraft plummeted to the ground and burst into flames about five miles from the airfield. He was 25 years old.
