Service Notes: He was serving aboard the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor when Japanese forces launched their surprise attack on December 7, 1941. As bombs fell and the battleship came under devastating attack, he remained at his post, passing ammunition to the Arizona’s gunners as they fought to defend the ship. Amid the explosions, fire, and chaos of the attack, he was killed in action while helping keep the ship’s guns supplied. He was 21 years old.
