Served In: World War II Branch of Service: Army Rank: 1st Lieutenant Service Notes: He was a soldier serving with a U.S. Army tank destroyer unit during World War II. Tank destroyer units were trained to confront and destroy enemy armored forces, preparing their crews for the dangerous fighting taking place overseas. In 1943, while serving in Texas, his life was unexpectedly cut short in an automobile accident. He was 27 years old.
